Grosvenor Merle-Smith visited Chautauqua recently in June 2013. Grosvenor is a world class huntsman. He owns and operates Sunny View Plantation in Louisa, Virginia and is a master at the Tennessee Valley Hunt. Without question, Grosvenor's interest in introducing the trompe to the equestrian world and huntsmen in particular is most significant to the development of the trompe in the USA. The trompe exists today because of the world of equipage. FITF encourages hunters to learn the trompe both as a signal instrument and for the enjoyment of making music.
